AMPHORAs

Amphora wines are our smallest production - we make about 800-1200 bottles of these wines per year. In recent years we’ve made single varietal wines in amphoras from Carmenere, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The grapes are picked by hand, they are sorted by hand in the cellar and then naturally fermented. The wine then have matured in the terracotta amphoras for 12 months before bottling. No fining or filtering is done for these wines.

Our winemaker Nea got the idea for amphora wines while considering how to make the purest and most authentic wine possible. Her idea was to make a wine that would best reflect the terroirs of our old vineyards.

Oak ageing is common in Bordeaux, and while Nea likes working with oak barrels, the barrels always give the wine some flavour, tannins and texture. Amphora, on the other hand, is a neutral container, but a porous material, just like an oak barrel. Thanks to the porosity, the wine breathes but retains a clean, authentic taste.
